CWRU - Mather Dance Studio Domestic Hot Water

Algebra AEC was asked by Case Western Reserve University to study the replacement of the Steam to Domestic Hot Water (DHW) Heat Exchanger (HX) serving the Mather Loop. This involved evaluating the hot water load in the buildings served by the loop, the replacement of the existing steam to domestic hot water generator and flash tank. The buildings on the Mather Quad loop include Mather Dance, Mather House, Guilford, Hayden Hall, Clark Hall, Harkness, and Mather Memorial.

Multiple options were studied which included the installation of a like-for-like steam heat exchanger and tank system, the installation of a natural gas boiler and tank system, and the installation of a heat pump hot water heater.  Pre-heating alternates were also studied to capture waste heat from the steam tunnel.
